The History of Same Sex Relationships

Lesbianism and homosexuality are not a recent discovery when it comes to sexuality and its culture around the world. As a matter of fact, these kinds of sexual practices have a long and rich history. The social understanding and tolerance levels toward same sex relationships were different over time and in certain circumstances and cultures. Some tolerated homosexuality while others condemned it in the most radical way possible. Homosexual practices of any kind, contributed to sex cultures all over the world and they definitely brought some light into the sexual freedom that we enjoy nowadays. But one thing is for sure: they are part of the human nature and part of our sexuality and in time they got the attention that they deserved.

The perspective on homosexuality and lesbianism is still proper to every culture in particular, but nowadays the world started to accept the sexual variety and embrace it. Along the history, homosexuality was punished in several ways from years in prison to death, but it was also applied in more cases than one could imagine. Philosophers and scientists of ancient times were most often than not indulging in homosexual practices with their students and the world knew this. Important figures such as Socrates and Michel Foucault were homosexuals and they had their own vision on life in general and sexual practices in particular. Ancient Rome had many cases of homosexuality. It was actually a way to prove a man’s power over other men and their superiority. Homosexual couples were not only known off but also accepted outside a man’s marriage and almost part of the culture. Men had the right to engage in sexual relationships with each other and they were free to do so at any time. Sexual orgies were also very popular in ancient Rome and ancient Greece and they were looked as intense rituals of pleasure and sexual evolution. Hinduism also allowed and even encouraged different levels of sexual exploration and homosexuality as well as lesbianism were only some of those levels. For Indians, sex is considered to be an art and even more than that, a spiritual practice which makes it more free and limitless than it is in other cultures. Along the history, everyone was free to live their sexual fantasies one way or another, some did it in an official way if their culture allowed them to, while others did it behind closed doors. But in every case, sexual fantasies and desires existed and were satisfied one way or another.

Nowadays, most people have the freedom to experience their sexuality with whoever they want regarding of their gender or sexual orientation. Lesbian and homosexual couples have the same rights as any other couples and this is how it should be! But it took centuries to reach this level of official sexual freedom, one that is practiced worldwide or at least in the most civilized countries. Homosexuality is part of the human nature and it is the basis of many cultures. It also opens a field of new sexual fetishes and pleasures that are completely unique and very intense in their nature. BDSM community is very welcoming when it comes to LGBT members of all kinds and sexual orientation and there are many bondage styles and BDSM fetishes that they can indulge into. Sexuality is considered now to be one of the most common sexual practice, outside heterosexual ones and it is accepted and supported all over the world. Homosexuals and lesbians have the right to indulge in any sexual practices that they want and perform the most intense BDSM scenes. If there were times in history when homosexual couples needed to hide to live their relationship, now these cases are rather rare because people accepted more levels of sexuality and the sexual identities that come along with them.
