New to BDSM - Rope Bondage Types

Rope bondage is a great way to get into the BDSM spirit. There are plenty of things you can do with a rope, so maybe that has something to do with its popularity. Keep in mind that no matter what form of rope you choose to play with, you will need to learn how to tie a knot properly.

Another important thing is to be safe. This translates to never tying your knots and rope too tight: you should always leave room to insert one or two fingers between the skin and the rope as a safety precaution. This is done because movement can tighten the rope, so you should always be on the safe side.

When you are playing with a rope, your main concern should be your partner’s circulation, so you should constantly check it. Keep an eye out on any tingling sensations they may have, loss of sensation, cold temperature or changes to the color of the skin. If any of those things happen, cut the rope immediately. If you are playing with a safe word, the scene should be stopped right away. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Before trying anything on someone, practice a lot in a toy or even a blow up doll. This will ensure that you know what you are doing before putting your partner in danger. So, once you know all of that, you can now look at the different types of rope bondage

Suspension bondage is very popular among the BDSM community, but you should only try it if you are trained with the skill of suspension. You may look at a picture and go ‘oh that looks beautiful, I’m going to try it right now - honey, come here’ but the reality is that this is something very dangerous if you don’t have any experience with it. Suspension basically means you will be suspending someone from above through rope, but you need to know how to do it before you can actually get there. There are plenty of online sites that offer classes, but the good news is there are also plenty of places around that offer the training, so you just need to look a little more into it if you are interested. And even if you have taken classes, you will need to have an expert present when you try suspension the first few times.

Another beautiful thing you can do with rope is Shibari, Kinbaku or Japanese rope bondage. It is kind of like a work of art, because it involves a lot of ties and knots that have been around for centuries and have been inspired by martial

arts ties. And if you think it is only appealing visually, you are wrong my dear friend because it also feels amazing; the ties are meant to stimulate your already sensitive and erogenous places, so you can imagine where this is going to… Usually Japanese rope bondage also includes some asymmetrical positions in order to increase the sensations and impact on the person (and I am talking about both psychological and physical effects).

But if you are more of a beginner into this wonderful world, the symmetrical rope bondage will be right up your alley. This type of bondage is super comfortable and easy, so it is a good introduction to rope bondage. The idea for this is to create a calm environment and a sensation of perfection, hence the symmetrical aspect, so it is a very nice experience. You can easily begin with this rope bondage by tying both hands together.

And on the opposite side of the spectrum, we have asymmetrical rope bondage; unlike the symmetrical bondage, this is probably not the best choice for beginners. This type of bondage is meant to be uncomfortable, so usually it is left for situations where you want to punish your partner; imagine tying their left wrist to their right ankle, for instance. That is why asymmetrical rope bondage is a good form of punishment.
